Sons of the Red Horizon explores strength, unity, and the quiet confidence that comes from standing together. Though each figure is distinct, together they form something greater - a presence defined by courage, trust, and solidarity.
I was drawn to the powerful energy of the trio: their freedom, their strength, and the sense of loyalty that exists between them. There is power in their stance, but also warmth and humanity. They do not confront the viewer; instead, they look beyond, toward something unseen.
This painting has a unique place in my artistic journey. The first version was created in 2014 and a second interpretation followed in 2022, with subtle changes to the body art and background. Looking back, I find it striking that these two versions were created in years that would later become defining moments in the history of my homeland, Ukraine.
The red horizon was never intended as a literal symbol, yet over time it acquired a meaning of its own. Looking at the painting today, I see three figures facing an uncertain future with courage and determination. They do not turn away from what lies ahead. They stand together, ready.
At its heart, Sons of the Red Horizon is about the strength we find in one another when facing the unknown.
