Title: Lion Fish Girl
Year: 2025
Medium: Acrylic on canvas
Dimensions: 70 x 70 cm
Lion Fish Girl explores a form of feminine strength that is often overlooked - quiet, grounded, and self-assured, yet fully capable of defending itself when necessary.
I was inspired by the contrast embodied by the lionfish itself: elegant and beautiful, yet equipped with powerful natural defences. It does not seek conflict, nor does it need to prove its strength. Its presence alone is enough.
The figure sits in stillness, surrounded by soft, earthy tones that evoke calm and balance. Yet beneath that calm lies an unmistakable message. Choosing peace does not mean accepting disrespect. Seeking harmony does not mean lacking power. There are moments in life when we must stand firmly in our own truth and refuse to become smaller for the comfort of others.
For me, the lionfish became a symbol of the strength that emerges when we move beyond expectations and conditioning. It speaks to the courage of taking up space, setting boundaries, and recognising that kindness and power can exist side by side.
At its heart, Lion Fish Girl is a reflection on self-respect, resilience, and the quiet confidence that comes from knowing exactly who you are.
